My Project

I moved from 1st grade to 5th and to a new classroom. As a teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide my students with creative ways to help them learn and overcome those challenges.

I want to create a safe, loving, comfortable classroom where everyone has a positive learning atmosphere and an opportunity to learn.

Many are raised in single-parent households and receive free breakfast and lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things often prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many see as "typical." From the minute they arrive at school, I focus on creating a positive environment. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly try to control their experience during the school day.

The materials and supplies I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! Lamps help to create ambiance, extension cords help to plug in the lamps in a room with limited outlets, and the switches will help to easily turn everything on and off daily.

This project's donations will help create a lifelong love of reading and provide a space to get away from it all and work independently. Students will be immersed in a cozy environment to relax and enjoy a good book, infusing a little of what it would be like to read at home.
