This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are thoughtful, curious, and eager learners that come from a variety of backgrounds. Over half of my students come from disadvantaged backgrounds, so making the classroom a place where they have an advantage is important.
My fourth-grade students are beginning to discover their own learning styles and enjoy the freedom to choose how and what they learn.
Their energetic and inquisitive nature makes them an extremely fun group of students to teach and challenge. As they grow in independence and self-awareness, I want to give them the opportunity to take ownership of their learning.
My Project
Our classroom is a warm and inviting place and needs the lighting to match. Our class has sixteen florescent lights and only one small window. These light covers will dim the harsh florescent lights and mimic natural light. These harsh lights make it difficult for my students with special needs who are sensitive to light and my student who frequently has seizures within the classroom. I have had light bulbs removed in areas these students are seated, however would love to enhance the lighting even further to meet their sensory needs.
We need lighting that mirrors the warm, calming environment my students and I have created.
These light covers will enhance our learning space and benefit every student in my room.
