There are times in math class that students need to work independently and there are times when the class needs to work together. With Write and Wipe Lapboards, markers & erasers we can do both! The Lapboards (9" x 12" dry-erase board) allow for students to complete their calculations at there own pace and simply hold it above their head for me to see from anywhere in the room. This allows me to better meet the needs of students that have not yet grasped the concept, while simultaneously accelerating and extending learning for those that grasp it quickly. During the guided practice portion of any lesson, I can simply post math story problems on the smartboard for students to complete. As they finish each one they hold it up for me to see. A simple "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" from me allows them to know whether to move on or to come join our small group for additional support. Students love this as they feel control and ownership of their learning. I love this as it allows me to better assess and support students toward mastery of 4th grade math content and beyond.
