Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My classroom has an interactive whiteboard, but no projector. Our school doesn't have the funding we need for technology to make math more exciting. We used to have more projectors, but they are no longer functioning. I teach a reading class, and two 8th grade algebra classes. My students are being pushed to the max -- math students are expected to take college classes starting in 9th grade -- and are expected to not only pass the 8th grade State Exam, but also the Algebra Regents Exam.

We're jamming two years of math into one! Despite the high standards, my students are just regular city kids, and need all the extra help they can get. They were selected by lottery from our community, and have the opportunity to graduate from high school with two years of college under their belts, but in order for that to happen, we need them to pass the 8th grade and the 9th grade state math exams this year.

The more technology in the classroom, the more interactive and engaging lessons are. Despite the high standards and incredible opportunities being offered to them, my students are just regular city kids, and need all the extra help they can get. Being able to use the interactive whiteboard in the classroom means being able to make math come alive.

You will make it possible for my students to grasp mathematical concepts in a way that is not possible with chalk and chalkboard. The ability to manipulate objects, create graphs, and use color and animation is invaluable for a mathematics classroom, and this projector will allow us to do all those things and more!
