Light Up Table for Sensory Input

Help me give my students with Autism a light table for their sensory needs.

My Project

The students in my class are all on the Autism Spectrum and they love to get creative using manipulatives. Students rotate through centers throughout the day and they all want to use a STEM based light up pad. The light up pad uses different shaped pieces that are translucent to create shapes and structures. But, this light up pad is very small, and we only have one resource we can use with it.

The light up table would not only allow students to work together using the translucent manipulatives, but it would bring a new level of sensory input to a self-contained Autism Support classroom.

This light up table would be incorporated into centers and allow students to collaborate to build different figures, count objects, or to simply have access to necessary sensory input that they seek daily as children on the spectrum.

My hope is that the light up table will help support students build independent work skills using the manipulatives with it, joint-attention skills as a highly preferred item in the classroom, and work on interpersonal communication skills as they work with peers at the light table. All of which are necessary skills for success. And, the students will love this. I can't wait to see their faces.
