Help me give my students lighting that is appropriate for their sensory needs. Our students have various challenges, and having a variety of lights will help to assist them in day to day challenges.
Our students are amazing kids, ages 3 to 5, who all have some degree of challenges. Our program helps give them a jump start, and prepares them to enter kindergarten with an advantage that will help them integrate with their non-challenged peers.
Most of our students benefit from focusing on gross and fine motor skills, basic academic skills and early social skills.
We integrate these skills as much as possible by using crafts, art and imaginary play.
This project will allow us to provide resources for our students to spark their imaginations. Much of what we have in our classroom now has been donated or purchased second hand, and many of the items are damaged and becoming less than desirable to use with 3 year olds. Our goal would be to replace these items with newer things for the students to enjoy and expand their imaginations.
My Project
We are in need of rope lighting to assist our many students with various challenges. I have chosen this for my preschool special needs class to create a soothing and inviting environment. The children can function better without chaos and bright lights. The rope lights in my room will offer an availability to dim as needed for my students. I have researched the effects of calming lights when used with child autism and other sensory disorders, and the results are astounding. I am excited to be able to give my students an opportunity to thrive in their own classroom environment.
