My Students

I am a first-grade teacher at a K-3 school in southern Maine. The school that I work at has a diverse community of learners with a wide range of financial security. Located in close proximity to a naval base, we have a large population of military families, so roster changes throughout the school year are frequent. Our school works hard to be a place where the needs of all students are met, and we are invested in helping children to be caring and well-rounded learners.

I love the energy and enthusiasm that each of my first graders brings to our classroom.

Along with that energy comes a unique personality and learning style. I work hard to get to know each of my students and to find different ways to help them do their best learning in my classroom each day.

My Project

My first grade classroom is a beautiful space that gets a lot of natural light from five large windows. On sunny days, we are often able to work without turning on the ceiling lights. On cloudy or rainy days, we don't have that option, and the ceiling lights do not have any dimming options. I have bought one lamp for my classroom already; the room seems much more calm and soothing when the lamp is on, but it is not powerful enough to light the whole room.

With your help, I hope to get an additional floor lamp, as well as two small table lamps; these would make our room calm, cozy and peaceful, while providing us enough light to read and write throughout the day.

As we move into the winter months here in Maine, these lamps would make our room feel warm and inviting, no matter what the weather is like outside, allowing students to be comfortable and at home as we learn.
