My amazing first graders are eager to learn and grow! Every new experience is filled with excitement! I feel so blessed to be their teacher. We have been adding more and more hands-on activities in our classroom, and as we do so my kiddos have flourished! Just a few weeks ago we brought in caterpillars to watch them grow into butterflies. One of my first graders (who has been struggling all year) couldn't stop writing all about its life cycle! We love being here and learning!
My Project
Hands-on, play-based learning gives young students the best opportunity to engage in the content they are learning about! It allows learners to interact with, and understand concepts in a more meaningful way. It gives children the opportunity to problem solve, collaborate, and build strong healthy social skills as they work together.
In our classroom, I am striving to fill our days with meaningful hands-on learning!
As I watch my students interact with a variety of learning tools I see their minds light up with understanding! I am hoping to add a large light table to my classroom. There are so many different ways we will use it each day. Math, literacy, and science activities will be even more engaging using the light table. Imagine students being able to look at real x-rays up close as we learn about animals! Or, using a ten frame with translucent chips to practice adding and subtracting. In a literacy activity, we might be sorting our spelling words into different spelling patterns. The opportunities are endless!
I am delighted to have found a larger table for my first graders. The larger size will allow four or more students to work around it at the same time. I have seen the academic and social benefits first hand as I implement hands-on activities with my students. With your donation, we will be able to expand the opportunities in our classroom and continue fostering the love of learning!
