Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have so much fun working with this group of boys everyday! Each day is a new day with new challenges and I feel responsible for their development and happiness. For some they are learning how to play with toys, others are learning life skills such how to sit while eating lunch or how to wash their hands, some are learning by clapping, dancing and singing to songs. What ever their goals may be, as a class we have fun reaching them.
My PSD classroom includes 12 energized boys each bringing with them a different story and way of learning.
Each are a puzzle that requires a teachers dedication and heart. I believe that with structure, organization and the correct classroom environment anyone can learn and grow. We sing, we dance, we jump, we explore in the water table or in the sandbox. I do whatever is necessary to keep my students engaged.
I feel very Honored to work and help this group of boys. They are my heart and I could not imagine spending my days any other way.
My Project
Our classroom is in need of hands-on learning materials that are engaging and exciting! The items selected will promote learning and reinforce concepts that are in the curriculum and stated in their IEP's. Each item has been specifically picked based on students interests and areas in need of development. For example Float and Find Letters that can be added to the class water or sand table, Puzzles that teach colors or numbers, or a Magnetic Shape Sort for children to explore and interact together in large or small groups. Selected materials are geared to creative play and group activities to increase social and emotional development. My goal is to creative an environment where the boys have fun, feel safe to explore and are engaged. They love touching and manipulating objects and for me this creates teachable moments where I can build on vocabulary, social strategies and play.
