Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

As an art teacher in a rural, low-income community, I have made it my goal to provide new and exciting art lessons that are out of the norm for our FES little artists. Just imagine teaching in a district where all your students receive free meals, few rarely travel outside of our hometown of 4,000 people in the low-socioeconomic delta area of Arkansas. So many of my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom from learning deficits to single-parent, low-income households with little support for learning. That's where I teach art.

Through this project, I would like to be able to offer more technology in the form of light pads that will allow our students to create various types of digital art, such as stop-motion animation projects.

Last year through the generous contributions of www.donorschoose.org donors, I was able to introduce a classroom iPad, which will also be used with these light pads in the creation of our animation projects. Digital art projects help students prepare for future classes and jobs in science, technology, engineering, art, and even math. My art students would love creating stop-motion animation movies, photo collage designs, artist research projects, and more!

It will always be my goal as their art teacher to create a world of learning through art that takes them on adventures in cultures they’ve never even dreamed of.
