Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach an energetic, enthusiastic group of 4th graders on the Central Coast. My class is comprised of primarily military and a mix of civilian students who love to explore new ideas, concepts, and technology. We work hard to develop a family style of learning and social responsibility. My students are eager to learn and support one another.
They are learning to manage their time effectively.
Each day they are given time frames in which they are able to choose which assignments they are motivated to work on during that time frame. The end goal is that all assignments are completed at their personal best level by the end of the week. They are doing well making choices, and absolutely love being in control of parts of their day!
My Project
My students would benefit from document holders and a timer while they are typing. Each week, my students write a rough draft of an assigned writing and then type the final into Google Classroom during work stations. As we have all experienced, typing an edited draft can be tricky when your papers are lying flat next to you. By having a document holder to support their papers, they would be able to type their final drafts more easily. Their time would be spent focused on their writing, lessening the frustration of losing their place in the rough draft, having their pages get mixed up, or stepped on. Some students prefer to sit on the floor and type, which can be tricky when you are managing a laptop and a stack of loose papers.
Document holders and a large timer will help my students be more successful.
Students need to be able to spend time working, not fumbling with papers. Also, time management is important as they move through the course of their day and week. Having a large timer will help. They will be able to see their allotted time from across the room and choose which tasks they can complete efficiently during that time frame.
