This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students in my class are a great group of kids! To be entered into our program, the families must be below the poverty guide lines which means the students don't always come from the best environments. My students amaze me because they don't let their circumstances define them.
My students look to me for answers to the questions that are burning in their minds!
Because of their circumstances, some of my students aren't able to experience things that they wonder about. Their ages makes them inquisitive about everything! They come to school, no matter what has happened at home, and they want to learn. Having proper materials helps me to let them explore things they haven't even thought of yet.
My Project
Having a Kitchen set, living room furniture and other "real life" items will help prepare my students for when they are adults. Having this things will not only help them with home skills but I will be able to teach them the proper way to use the kitchen appliances.
Children learn so much through actual play and using their imagination.
It may look like they are just playing but when they have an unstructured play, they are able to try and remember first hand what they did. My job as their teacher is to let their imaginations run and show them how to run with it.
