This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to me because they qualify for either KERA Preschool or Head Start. To qualify for either program, families must have an economic need or the student needs to have an IEP. I have a classroom filled with twenty energetic, loving, and smart preschoolers. They range from three and four to five years old.
I am responsible for setting a positive, caring, and engaging environment for my students.
I am the first experience these children will ever have in their endeavors through education. I want to help my students see that learning can be fun. I want to instill in them the love of learning so that they become lifelong learners.
As a first year teacher, I inherited a classroom that lacks modern day, interactive, and engaging materials. My students struggle to stay interested in the classroom's learning centers. I am requesting a variety of materials for my classroom.
My Project
My students will use these materials in our classroom to help develop their understand of life science as it relates to fish and butterflies. My students will help care for the fish in the aquarium as we watch them grow. The students will learn about the responsibility that comes with caring for animals. Having the butterfly garden will give my students the chance to see with their own eyes the stages of the butterfly.
The liquid tile mats will encourage my children to think scientifically about why the liquid moves when they step on the mats.
I will place these in the mats in the science center. Also, The students journals will give them a place to draw and write about heir scientific discoverers.
