Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach at a Title I school in Northern Utah. Our diverse school community is highly impacted by poverty with a large ELL population. In addition, our community was hit especially hard during the Covid 19 epidemic. My 3rd graders come to school eager to learn. They are delighful children who deserve every chance in life.

I'd love to give my students the experience of observing a miniature forest floor ecosystem next year.

This past year we have experienced a desert ecosystem terrarium with Blue Death Feigning Beetles. They love our little pets Blue Fire and Lily. The forest floor ecosystem will add to that experience by allowing them to experience an entirely different ecosystem with millipedes, isopods, and beetles that have different needs. I hope to inspire respect for the natural world and the creatures in it, and also spark discussion on the needs of living creatures and how they are adapted to their own habitats.
