I teach at an Equity Plus school located in Winston Salem, North Carolina. Currently about 75% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. In my class 90% receive free or reduced lunch and 30% are English as a second language learners. I love the idea of making students lifelong readers and writers. As educators we know that to do this we must use a balanced literacy approach. Organization is a key element in developing and maintaining a balanced literacy program. Unfortunately, due to lack of resources, schools are unable to provide teachers with the materials they need to do this. With the materials I am asking for I will be able to: display books that students have chosen as "must reads"; organize independent reading books on our class book shelf; and keep students' reading and writing journals together and organized. Please help me create an organized literacy program! I believe this would help students to become life long readers and writers.
