My Students

My scholars are an active group of fourth graders who are always seeking to learn more. Each of them thrives on learning and all of them love discovering more through hands-on manipulatives. They crave stimulating challenges and student-centered activities to help them grow as learners.

We have over 50% of our students receiving a free or reduced-price lunch, but together our community, parents, and staff work to get everything we need.

I strive to give them the supportive environment that they deserve while they are in school so they can have the best chance to grow as scholars.

My Project

Every year, I aim to teach my scholars not only a love of learning, but also how learning never stops. And there is no better way to teach this than by setting an example myself and investing in my own learning. I love learning how to improve my teaching. Jen Jones from Hello Literacy is offering a professional development series that will improve my language arts teaching and provide training with new and diverse picture books that I can bring into my curriculum.

This mini-series will go through the process of unpacking a picture book to find all the teaching points for reading, writing, and language skills for grades K-8.

I will be better equipped to use picture books not only as read-alouds but as mentor texts for my reading & writing minilessons. Additionally, I could use the teaching points in small group lessons.
