This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the great pleasure of teaching twenty first graders!

They are very energetic and love learning.

They are very intelligent! In first grade, the main math standard is adding and subtracting fluently. In my first grade class, I have some students who are multiplying! This is a 3rd-grade standard! My students truly are amazing! I work in a Title I school, where a lot of my students do not have access to books at home. That is where your help comes in!

My Project

AKJ Education's books will allow my students to practice reading at home. They will be exposed to more texts and begin to practice reading independently. The more my students practice reading independently the better they will be prepared for 2nd grade. This ultimately will allow me to help close the achievement gap and allow my 1st graders to succeed in many different areas of education. At the end of 1st grade, I want to have all of my students reading on a 1st-grade​ level or above. Giving my students access to books at home will help me achieve my goal.
