Help me give my students the school life lab of their dreams! We want our students, parents and teachers to be a part of creating a garden that actually feeds us.
Our school's life lab was the first in our county back in the 1970s. During Covid it was left unused and really fell into shambles. Also, it has also been hard to find life lab teachers. But now we have the most amazing, dedicated, and passionate life lab teacher who is turning it all around. The garden is truly coming back to life, but we need some important items to get it back to its glory and meet our new goal of actually feeding kids.
Our goal is to make this a community effort that succeeds in growing tons of healthy and delicious produce that will actually feed our students.
We are bringing the food grown to our school cafeteria to serve. We hope that students will try new things, and learn about healthy eating. We will be having community building days on the weekends where families come in to volunteer.
We want our garden to be so much more than just a garden. It should be a place where students interact with nature while learning life science standards, learn healthy eating habits, develop a sense of responsibility for taking care of the Earth, and be a place for developing social skills and a sense of community.
The items in this grant are needed to do the big projects that are needed in our garden. Maintaining a school garden is not only a lot of work, but requires a lot of equipment/tools. We are lacking the kinds of power tools that are imperative in maintaining a space like this. There are also items in this grant that will create opportunities for learning, like a butterfly terrarium, & clipboards for learning on the move.
We know this is a BIG grant. We have BIG dreams. Thank you for your consideration.
