Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love teaching and my students love school! The school is a Title I at-risk school and my students are in third grade; many are gifted and all of them are so excited to learn. This school year, I was given the amazing opportunity to teach a new group of amazing students. The school itself is very small due to its location in the middle of the city. Since state funding is tied to the number of pupils, budget cuts have been made. I want to be able to enrich my students' education with more engaging tools and lessons, especially for those students who are more kinesthetic learners.

My Project

Each Friday, my students are rewarded with time to relax and decompress from the week, during a period of time that we call Fun Friday. In this time, my students are allowed to play games, draw, and socialize with their peers outside of a (totally) academic setting. This helps develop their Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS), while strengthening bonds in our classroom.

I want to provide my students with a variety of board games to give them more options during Fun Friday!

Board games allow students to build communication and problem solving skills, while also encouraging competition in a healthy context.
