This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are a very diverse group of students who come from all walks of life. We serve a large population of underprivileged students who receive free or reduced-cost lunches and don’t let anything hold them back from achieving their goals.
We are an IB school and I am the coordinator as well as a Spanish teacher.
This program reaches six hundred students in grades nine and ten. The program aims to prepare students for the real world and give them skills and knowledge to be able to succeed after high school.
My class is a language acquisition class that explores Spanish and works towards the IB and AP exams. We are currently expanding the IB program as we work to mold our students into globally competitive young adults.
With your help, we can build a classroom environment that helps them to grow their twenty-first century skills and become ready for the real world.
My Project
These texts include a bilingual text as well as a narrative written by an immigrant. These will help students to engage with the language while learning about the culture of Latin America. Students will have access to their own copy and will engage with each other through summaries and discussions. Reading is a fundamental piece to learning a language and the bilingual text will help to ease lower level students into the experience. Students will be able to hear from a firsthand perspective what it is like to be an immigrant and will compare their experiences to those of the author.
