Ms. Kribbs from Chicago IL is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
The cost books for a classroom library is $560, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

My second grade students adore silent reading. I found it amazing as a first year teacher that being allowed to sit back in the classroom library and read something of their own choice was a sought after reward to my students. Unfortunately, after months of daily read alouds and sustained silent reading, their enthusiasm is starting to wane. They have read all the books at least twice! I try to buy some on my own to spice it up a bit, but they want and need more choice in order to stay engaged and challenged. My proposal is to set up a library center. So far I have comfortable bean bags to help them relax and our standard classroom library from the school for them to choose books from. However, the center desperately needs more books! I'm hoping that by allowing the students to engage in library activities with books of their own choice, they will feel like they have agency in their own learning. The excitement my students already possess about reading is amazing! It can also be very sad when their favorite book is a three page long book from the dollar store. I know they deserve better, they need better and if given better they will excel. Please help me buy books for my second graders that will keep them reading and learning - they certainly deserve it!
