This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am the teacher-librarian at a pre-k to 5th grade public school in El Paso, TX where students are given the opportunity to learn English, Spanish and German. I want to update our seating, which includes a love-seat that has been in the library since the school opened. In my experience, movable and soft seating areas encourage children to work together more easily, creating a dynamic and supportive environment.
This three-piece seating will allow our explorers to gather in small groups to discuss books, share ideas, or work on projects without the constraints of traditional, rigid furniture.
I am proud to share that our caring and hard-working teachers and staff encourage and support our students academically and socially. Currently, we serve over 360 students, including seven dual-language and two special education classrooms, with more than 85% of our students coming from economically disadvantaged homes.
