With their buddy, they find a quiet spot and practice reading aloud to build fluency and confidence.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the materials, their reaction was priceless. They gasped, pointed, and began excitedly asking which buddy they might adopt. Several students immediately began talking to the stuffed animals and pretending to read to them even before we officially started. Their excitement showed how meaningful this simple tool can be in building motivation.\r\n\r\nThe next step was for students to complete their \"Reading Buddy Adoption Pledges\" and begin using the buddies to work on their fluency progress over time.
