Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is the only school in Santa Fe Public Schools dedicated to educational programming exclusively for 3 and 4 year old children. The school gives priority placement to students who are identified as needing special education services.
My students' curiosity and drive to explore the world around them inspires me everyday.
I have 24 students (in two sessions; morning and afternoon) who are energetic and excited to learn through play. More than half of these students have individualized education plans and benefit from related services such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, social work, or speech therapy in our school.
My Project
As we enter the coming school year, I am hoping to make our classroom library a comfortable and inviting place for my young students to develop of love of books and story time. Currently, I don't have enough places for children to sit or enough shelf space to provide the kind of variety I would like to in reading material.
A genuine love of reading is something I want every student to develop in my classroom.
The new shelf, rearrangeable bench seating, and floor cushions will provide a library all of my students will be able to fit in for story time and a library they can use independently throughout the day.
