My Project

Flexible seating has been the big push in education over the past several years. This type of seating arrangement allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. I feel that it is time for the flexible seating to move into my school library. Currently students are seated at tables and chairs in groups of 4. Reading for pleasure and collaborating on projects would not only be more comfortable with the materials that I have requested but also allow the library to be used as a meeting space. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students and their productivity when they are given a choice in their seating.

Adding this new form of seating to the library will make the library more inviting to students while opening it up for a multitude of uses.

The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options as they read for pleasure, research topics, or participate in small groups. The area would also be a welcoming area for book discussions. The book bins allow a variety of books that can be easily sorted and quickly changed out. The seating area would be an addition to the few pieces of flexible seating that I already own.

I have seen how choice can positively affect my students' work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will foster a love of reading and creativity while helping us to grow!
