This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

This project aims to bring Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime to our diverse classroom, ensuring that our students with IEPs and ILPs can access the same high-interest literature as their honors peers. Traditionally reserved for advanced tracks, we believe this narrative of resilience is essential for all students to see themselves reflected in their learning.

Having just explored the lives of Nelson Mandela and the courageous women in Tehran, our students are deeply engaged in conversations regarding oppression and triumph.

This memoir is the perfect bridge to continue that momentum. To keep this spark alive, we are on a strict timeline: we need these books in our students' hands immediately after spring break so we can begin our next unit by April 13th. Your support will provide the necessary accommodations and resources to ensure every learner in our inclusive setting feels seen, heard, and empowered by this powerful story. Thank you for helping us champion equity and literacy for our incredible students.
