Help me give my students more fiction and nonfiction leveled readers to complete our most used leveled Book Bins that are used daily in our kindergarten classroom!
The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.
My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.
We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.
I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.
My Project
My kindergarten students love to read and get so excited when they find books that they can read! It builds up their confidence and helps them realize they really can read. This is why I love our new Leveled Book Bins. The problem is we need more leveled books at the most popular kindergarten early reading levels. I am asking for Levels A, E, and F leveled books to add to current collection and expand our choices of both fiction and nonfiction. These leveled reader sets will help us complete our most used levels in kindergarten.
These new leveled readers will help my students gain access to new books at their level to help build their reading confidence and help them work on fluency while reading!
My students love to grab a Book Bin at their level and pick some great books and read them to themselves and sometimes our Foster Grandma who helps out in the classroom. They are also a great addition to our Reading Bags that are sent home to read with their families.
