My Students

My students are the most enthusiastic group of first graders I have ever had the privilege of working with. They are so kind to one another and just love to learn.

I feel so blessed every day to be a small part of their educational journey.

Even though they face many obstacles, they never let those challenges affect their work ethic or confidence. My students inspire me every day to be the best teacher I can be because they deserve the best. The near south side of Indianapolis has some amazing attributes, but my students have also been exposed to some heart-breaking situations.

My Project

I teach first grade reading and all of my students are at various reading levels. Some are still working on sight words, and some are beginning to read chapter books. Our classroom full of young learners comes to us with many different experiences. These materials will allow me to organize books in my classroom library so students can quickly find a book they like on their instructional level. Leveled readers make it possible for each child to have books at their own level that they are comfortable reading. Having books at the right level builds confidence, and allows for children to be excited to read.
