My Students
My students are talented and motivated artists who work hard to combine their love of the arts with their academic studies. We are an art school in NYC where students from diverse backgrounds are united in their dedication to artistic and academic excellence. Approximately three-fourths of my students are female.
Through hands-on, engaging learning activities, all our students explore the world around them.
In my chemistry class, my artistic students will see the science that shapes the world around us. Understanding the science of climate change, disease, and human health will empower my students to shape the world around them positively. Science, technology, and policy shape the future. Gaining scientific knowledge will give my students' voices power as they make choices that will impact our futures.
My Project
Using these materials my students will be able to create, conceptualize and explore chemistry in a fun and exciting way. Our students took all their academic classes remotely for more than a year. One of the biggest challenges from teaching through zoom is that teachers were unable to distribute hands-on materials that can help chemistry students build models to demonstrate their understanding of the invisible interactions between atoms as they change physically or chemically.
These materials will be used to help make games and construct models as our class has fun exploring the exciting but abstract world of chemistry together.
Students will be able to interact with new concepts and one another for the first time in a long time. We will work together to build interpersonal relationships with one another and we will be also building our understanding of chemistry in the world around us.
