My Students

Our students come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. Our students' families face many challenges (i.e., shelter, food, clothing, etc.). We are a low income school in North Carolina. I work with students with disabilities that need extra resources to be successful at times. Every child should have equal access to educational opportunities no matter what their circumstance.

My mission is to provide a comfortable, safe environment where students have all the resources they need to be academically successful.

Our students have limited resources and academic opportunities. They have very few opportunities to explore new worlds, so we try to visit as many places as we can through books, writing, and visual representations of the real world.

My Project

A Cricut Maker will engage and expand my students' creativity and use of technology. A Cricut in our classroom is needed to make learning more engaging using various creations such as vision boards, decorations, bulletin boards, and PBIS rewards. This Cricut will be used to allow my students exposure to various forms of design and creation platforms. With this machine, they can use and benefit from the use of the Design Space computer program which allows them to create a variety of hands-on items using different mediums including magnet sheets, wood, vinyl, paper, foil, and more. As we are a STEAM school, this Cricut Maker will incorporate the use of technology and design programming to enhance the creativity of my students. It will also allow for creative visuals around our school, engaging student motivation and learning.

Creativity fosters communication among students while improving their social and emotional growth.

The Cricut Maker is a device that can assist in helping the students create all that they want to create. It is a tool that can enhance all of the wonderful things that are going on in our classroom and things to come. Learning should be fun! I want to motivate my students by providing them with the newest materials and tools. Denying accessibility to resources should not be a hindrance to their education. This project will allow students to bring their very own ideas and designs to life across all subjects.
