I am so grateful you are reading this and willing to help my students. I am an interventionist and work with students who have yet to break the code of reading. This year I have a case load of 42 students and 36 of them are pre-readers.
Part of my instruction is a systematic exploration of the articulation of phonemes fully integrating decoding and spelling instruction.
I would like to offer my students the opportunity to apply the skills with guided practice using the Wilson magnetic letter tiles and letter Board. This tool will allow me to use a combination of techniques with controlled exercises that will help them to achieve accuracy and automaticity with sounds/symbols relationships.

I use letter tiles with my pre-readers to do spelling lesson where I say a sound and I ask them to show me the letter that makes that sound. Once they accomplish this task, we use the same sounds and build words. For example, I ask them to build lip. Once they have that word on the tray, I will ask them to change one letter to make dip and so on. We make about 12 words during this exercise thus I need for each child to have a complete set of letters to manipulate.
By providing this scaffolding to my students, they are able to break the code off decoding and encoding.
