Letters There! Letters Here! Learning Letters Everywhere!

Help me give my students the opportunity to use a hands-on approach when learning to recognize letters and their sounds while using the Letter Stones along with the other manipulatives.

My Students

I teach at a Pre-K center, which implements the Reggio way of learning and teaching. My classroom is filled with 20 students that come from diverse environments, and I want each one of them to build on their cognitive, social, creative, emotional, and motor skills during their time in my classroom. For many of them, this will be their first experience with school and experience being away from home. I strive to create an environment that is nurturing, inviting, and encourages learning.

My classroom environment encourages the students to learn through play.

Upon entering my room, you will see my students engaged in a variety of hands-on activities of their choice. We do many studies throughout the year, and I implement the study in all areas of the classroom. For example, during a Clothing Study, the student's sort clothes in Practical Life, match letters printed on clothing cutouts in ABC Center, match numbers printed on clothing cutouts in Math, wash clothes in Home Living, tie-dye shirts in the Atelier and explore paper dolls and materials in Loose Parts. I love to see their excitement as they enter each area and begin to explore the new materials!

My Project

My Pre-K students learn best through play and hands-on exploration! The students will be able to collaborate in small groups or individually with the letter manipulatives to help build their knowledge of letters and letters sounds. The Letter Builders will enable the students to learn first how to form the letters, which will then lead them into being able to write the letters.

These manipulatives will keep the students engaged in learning while learning how to match capital and lowercase letters, recognizing letter sounds as well as helping them write the letters.

Our Literacy Center and Writing Center will flourish even more with these materials displayed in those specific areas. The students will also be able to use the Letter Builders in our Light Table Center. These letter materials will fulfill my objective for my students to be prepared for their future years of school.
