My Students

Small group reading instruction plays an important role in the life of each young reader. Focusing on phonetic principles enables students to read unfamiliar words while focusing on meaning rather than laboring over ways to sound them out. My students are learning to love reading by being exposed to many types of literature. They are also being equipped with the tools to decode difficult words.

My students are energetic, loving, and eager to please.

They have had a lot of transition in their lives and school tends to be their constant place of refuge. The students who will benefit are reading and writing below grade level.

My Project

Elementary students need to have manipulatives for hands on instruction. By using magnetic letters, students can blend and segment words easily. They can also create new words and sentences easily.

The ultimate goal is to make reading instruction fun and engaging so that students can develop a life long love of reading.

I want to students to be able to move letters around, make words, learn new reading concepts, and enjoy learning. Each of these things can happen when students have the right tools.

Research shows that hands-on activities help students learn reading concepts faster. Small group instruction with these tools will help students fill in the gaps in their knowledge.
