In our Pre-K inclusion classroom, we strive every day to teach our students how to be good friends, how to play and learn together, and how to be critical thinkers.
Our Pre-K classroom in a Title I school that includes PK3 and PK4 students from across Washington D.C.
As a pre-K teacher, each day I strive to inspire my students to love learning, whether it is reading, writing, mathematics, or social-emotional skills such as how to take turns! Many students come from low-income families or dangerous neighborhoods. All my students qualify for free lunch and breakfast every day and some do not have stable housing. Many have never been in a school setting and so they need a consistent schedule with engaging lessons and interesting learning materials to show them how fun it can be to learn!
By the end of the year, our goal is to have students make more than one-year's progress to jump-start them on the path to success and a love of learning. We make the most of each day and our scholars are always striving to meet their goals!
In preparation for kindergarten, pre-K students are expected to learn their letters and the sounds each letter makes. These materials will help my students develop their alphabet knowledge through fun, engaging, and hands-on lessons. Students will be able to touch letters and begin to write words and practice sight words using the magnet uppercase and lowercase letters. They will be able to stamp the letters they are learning using the stamps and ink and we will use these to practice spelling their names as well. The dice are so students can play Roll and Write and practice their letter writing. Sand will engage students in the letter writing process. The CVC cubes and cards will help those students who know their letters to practice noticing the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in CVC words and then build those words. The pencil cases are so every student who comes to a small group to practice letters will have all the materials need in one spot so they do not need to keep track of materials in addition to learning their letters and sounds. These materials will really help my students be prepared for kindergarten!
