Katie, Emily, and Chris want to make sure to help their classmates succeed this school year. We already use a reading program that helps our 8th grade students succeed at multiple choice questions, but my students are concerned that their writing will slip without concrete help of grammar and conventions. When they were asked to think of ways to help them develop stronger skills in ELA this year, these three students decided that an online program where they can practice their writing was the right way to go!
Donations to my students' project will encourage ownership of each person's ability to work toward their individual writing goals successfully while also being able to strengthen core grammar and convention skills, and to self and peer edit. With the beginning of the school year, and the focus of our high stakes test quickly approaching, students will require a comfortable space to practice what they know and to acknowledge what they don't know. Giving them multiple opportunities to work toward attaining necessary writing abilities and move forward towards high school requirements. As students continue to demonstrate their maturity, they will begin to consider how this last school year in junior high can help them for ninth grade.

We already use an online reading program to help us practice close reading and answering multiple choice questions. We just took an assessment and many of our classmates forgot important strategies for writing essays. When Ms. S asked us to think of ways to work toward completing our individual goals, we researched online sites that could help us be successful.
We will make sure to be responsible for each of our classes to use IXL.com the most toward completing our individual and class goals. Every week, we will help our classmates decide which module will help us toward our class goal, and each of our classes will compete to make sure we are heading in the right direction. Also, we will use the individual reports to make sure that we are going to be successful towards our unit goal.
Last school year, our school had online practice that helped us to be successful with practicing close reading and answering multiple choice questions. This year, we want to make sure that we can also have online practice at IXL.com with our writing techniques. Just like an athlete, practice makes perfect!
