My Project

Today, all too often, kids are addicted to video games. They are not getting enough outdoor time or physical activity. Educational policies leading up to state testing puts pressure on students and teachers to spend the majority of their school days in the classroom and behind computers. Children need structured physical activities and play-based learning to improve their gross motor skills and allow for proper brain development.

In the United States, there is an epidemic of childhood obesity.

This leads to childhood diabetes and other health problems due to physical inactivity. Being taught the importance of being physically active, having time set aside to do it and having the equipment to support our program is vital to the overall health of our students. Being physically active along with learning what certain foods do for our bodies allows children to develop lifelong healthy habits.

Having sports equipment for our 4th graders will allow four teachers (128 children) to keep physically active with equipment we know will be there for us when we need it. We are one of the fastest growing communities in the U.S. Currently our school population is approximately 820 students (TK-5) and that number is growing rapidly due to massive and rapid housing development.
