This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My school consists of over three hundred K-7 students in the greater Philadelphia region. This charter school is in its fourth year of operation, with a majority of students being first or second-generation citizens of African descent. While a majority of our population comes from low-income conditions, each individual is embraced as a catalyst to their own excellence.
Such diverse cultural, economic and internal backgrounds help to shape a penetrating and diverse community at Vision Academy, giving students unique opportunities to share and expand their perspectives through music.
My Project
Learning a stringed instrument is the most enlightening and demanding musical task students can take on. Help them experience high-level learning by providing them with quality ukuleles, which will be used in general music and select ensembles.
Mid-elementary students will apply these instruments to formal performing and fundamental note-reading, while our youngest students will experience them through lessons about timbre, pitch range and culture.
In all cases, these instruments will provide unique, space-saving opportunities for students to develop aural skills and to understand cultural dynamics. Students with instrumental experience demonstrate high levels of concentration, school attendance, academic performance and social sensitivity. Thank you, greatly, for your support.
