My Students

My 3rd graders are the most special group of students that I have ever had the pleasure of teaching! Do you remember the book you read that changed your love and attitude about reading? When you began reading it, you didn't want to put it down, and you couldn't wait to begin reading it again in anticipation of how the story would unfold? This is the type learning environment that I am building in my classroom every single day.

My students are truly beginning to develop a love for reading and I want nothing more than to foster this passion of theirs.

Many students do not have access to high-quality books at home and they rely on our classroom library to read the latest books out by their favorite authors. My students come to me every day to add book titles to our list to hopefully one day add to our classroom library. It is incredible to see the transformation take place in 3rd grade, when students who were once reluctant, beginning readers, begin asking for chapter books day after day. There is a passion that is just beginning to be awoken in our classroom!

My Project

All of my students are transitioning readers and are just beginning to read books that have longer story lines and interesting plots. I have chosen most of the books that my students have requested by name such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, Owl Diaries, Fly Guy, Bad Kitty, Ramona and Beezus, Captain Underpants, and Dog Man.

Providing my students with these novels will broaden their knowledge and take them to places they have never before experienced.

They are young, hard working, learning to love readers who need more access to today's popular novels along with the classics of yesterday.
