Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our middle school is a campus in a high-poverty area, serving over 1,200 students in grades 6 through 8. Over 88% of our students participate in the free or reduced-price lunch program. This is our fourth year open and we continue to build our own sense of family and community in order to serve a diverse population of students.
Our learning community values family, integrity, respect, strength, and teamwork.
We create engaging learning environments that foster positive relationships and develop growth mindsets. My students are caring, curious, creative, and love to work together in teams. They care about leaving a positive impression and the older students serve as role models to our younger 6th graders. I truly have the best students who deserve the very best!
My Project
During their free time before and after school and during lunch they are always looking for ways to have fun and reconnect with their peers. Many of my students are worn out from too much screen time (thanks to COVID) and are reverting back to the days of playing fun games together instead of alone on a computer. My students love to play multi-player card games and any other group games they can get their hands on.
Please help me provide my students with fun and engaging collaborative games that will foster critical thinking and problem-solving and allow students to connect with their classmates.
Please help me provide our students with new and fun board and card games! Games like Battleship, Life, Guess Who, and Monopoly will let students experience classic games while also learning to work together and share. Uno is one of their favorite games and we would like several different sets so multiple groups of students can play at once.
