Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class comes to school ready to learn and full of energy everyday. Their enthusiasm and desire to please is especially endearing and needs to be directed towards becoming life long learners. The creativity they represent is amazing. By integrating the arts, our school is able to motivate these students to dig deep into their lessons in a meaningful and future-oriented way. They are an enthusiastic diverse group of children from a densely populated urban area.

Our school strives for excellence despite being considered at-risk due to serving a high poverty neighborhood.

Many of my students are working below their grade level and come from families who have limited resources at home. They get frustrated with traditional assignments and typically don't finish them. Yet they are creative and curious! They need materials to keep them engaged and confident.

My Project

The materials in the PowerMyLearning Family Engagement Innovators Program will increase meaningful family engagement for all of my students. Having families involved in my students' education is a critical part of their success.

With this program, I will learn how to incorporate groundbreaking strategies for engaging families in learning that integrate seamlessly into instructional plans.

The Program is designed for teachers in grades 3-8 and includes three convenient hands-on online professional development sessions plus access to PowerMyLearning's Family Playlists™, an easy-to-use program that puts students in the teacher’s seat at home and drives content mastery and social emotional learning skills.

Most of my students have great relationships with their families and the school. This program will help include academic pursuits and understanding into family time. And this will transfer into more positive relationships and higher academic success in the classroom.
