Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am one of two kindergarten teachers at a small country school in the middle of grape vineyards and nut orchards.

Happy, positive, courageous, hardworking, and enthusiastic are words that come to mind when I think of my class of kindergarten students.

Young students learn through hands on activities, repetition and interaction. Talking and sharing their thinking about math concepts and numbers helps them understand it better and to see different ways of doing the same task.

These magnetic math manipulatives will help my students share their thinking about each math standard by showing their classmates how they picture the math task or idea. Being able to move the pieces helps kinesthetic learners and engages the students in the process. They will be more eager to share what they know.

Being able to see how math works is part of our everyday lives. Having my young learners share their thinking and discuss their ideas with each other will ensure that great foundation.
