The majority of my students are from an urban area. They have chosen to attend our public charter school, to be a part of a school whose mission and vision are to provide a well-rounded STEM-based educational experience that fosters leaders, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. Our public charter school inspires, excites, and empowers young learners to embrace the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Our school receives one-third of the funding traditional public schools in our area receive.
This creates an economic hardship for our school. As a result, we have a challenging time acquiring materials to support our STEM-based curriculum for our students.
My kindergartners will be the second generation to experience our new STEM-based school and we're eager to begin this journey together. We are moving into our new building in September and we couldn't be more excited!
My Project
Our class is in need of a table for our math groups. A half moon shaped table would be the perfect choice for my classroom as it is large enough for four students to conduct a proper math group. The half moon shaped table will also help the students focus on the instructor because of its unique shape and design. Math is an area in which students cannot afford to struggle as it often carries over to other subject areas.
By donating to my project you will give my students the gift of being in a formal math group as well as a table to display our Science activities.
I meet with my Math groups for 30 minutes three days a week and at times the kids lose focus because we do not have a proper area to conduct the groups. This half-moon shaped table would be used for math groups as well as for small group activities for extra help or enrichment.
The half moon table will also double as a Science Display table when we are not using it for math. We are a STEM school and Science is a big part of our curriculum. I have Science items, activities and books for the topic we are working on but I do not have a place to display the information or the hands-on activities that go with the Science Units.
