My students need to read an abundance of non-fiction leveled readers. They need to manipulate the language of being informed. Plus, stories with puppets is oral language to the "max".

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a reading intervention teacher for kindergarten, first, and second grade students. Depending upon the needs of the students is how their schedules are determined. The dynamic part of this story is that some of the children that I work with, I have known since they were preschoolers. Relationships have been established and we flourish. Respect and pleasant dispositions seem to be our nutrients for flourishing.
Knowing my students well, including my students new to me and/or the school, makes the drive to learn doable, purposeful, and fun.
The best sound (even before the letter sounds) is "kid laughter". This means that my students are talking. Talking and using language for all of the right reasons is the glue to reading and writing. Speaking "loud and proud" and using their voices of knowledge, confidence, and passion to read and to talk (about what they read) is how I want to support all of my students. Their eagerness and newly found passion for books and reading is contagious. My/All students deserve to be taught to be the best readers, speakers, and writers that they can be.
My Project
I need an entire set of leveled readers so I can match students to strong informational text based on their reading levels. This does not stop here, though. To tap into my students' interests would create such momentum to read and read more, a win-win for today and tomorrow. I am requesting a set of nonfiction leveled readers as well as storytelling puppets.
These materials would offer me a wealth of resources for my students grow (or burst creatively, blaming a puppet for their enthusiasm because they will be elated that I requested puppets, too).
