This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a Special Education teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
I strive to create a safe place in our classroom where all are welcomed and encouraged to develop independence.
My class is made up of a group of kind, caring and creative children. My students are a mix of fourth, fifth and sixth graders with mild to moderate special needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and Speech and Language Impairment among other behavioral and sensory issues. All of my students require alternative learning tools and materials due to their special learning needs.
My Project
Please help my students get materials to make sensory bins so that each student has their own bin during our sensory break time. The Kinetic Sand, Play-Doh and Orbeez will be used to make sensory break bins
Sensory breaks are an important part of our day as they provide the students with a built-in release time for extra energy, anger, or brain breaks.
We requested tools to cut and mold the kinetic sand and playdoh for the students to use their imagination in creating things. The magnetic beads and bristle blocks will create mindful play for my students when they need a break from academics.
