Let's Shuffle Into Reading By Listening To iPods!

My students need 4 iPod shuffles to independently listen to audio books at a listening center.

My Students

I teach at an urban school. My school is diverse and inclusive. I have students of varying needs. It is difficult being a classroom teacher and teaching to everyone's ability.

The best way to teach is through small group instruction.

In small groups, I can differentiate my teaching to their specific skills. My students are learning letters, letter sounds, and how to put the letters together to create words.

My kindergartners are so eager to learn. They love listening to stories and learning new things.

My Project

Having a set of iPod shuffles will enable my class to listen to audio books. My students love to listen to stories. Most kindergartners are unable to read picture books independently. During center time, I instruct small reading groups while my students have an independent center time.

Students learn to read by practicing and by having good books read to them.

A listening center gives the children an opportunity to listen to a fluent reader. The children can follow along with the text while listening to the iPod shuffle.

Listening to an audio book is one of the best ways to read a text.
