This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all second and third graders in a neighborhood that struggles economically. About 80 percent of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunches. That, however, does not diminish their excitement for learning, especially if you incorporate things they like doing.
They are smart and very capable students that are just looking for the chance to learn.
The economic challenges do, however, have an impact on what they have available to help them learn. These are changing times, and we have to constantly look for ways to not only keep students engaged but also build their skills towards potential careers. We know that the future requires critical thinking, problem solving skills, but it also requires a stronger background and understanding in technology, and my students love the tech.
My Project
My team of Second and Third Graders conduct live morning announcements with a Green Screen Studio, but the lighting in the room is not that great. It leaves fuzzy edges around the edges of everything. The students checked and it could be because of the poor lighting. The studio lighting here would greatly improve the quality of the live broadcast and the Public Service Announcements and other videos they record.
They also struggle at times to see the teleprompter, an old 17 inch monitor a few feet away.
This new monitor will allow for a larger, more easily readable display on the teleprompter.
