Help me give my students a variety of quality children's literature including books such as The Girl Who Thought in Pictures, Maddi's Fridge, Jabari Jumps, and many more.
I teach in a small Title I school in Texas. Even though we are a small school, we still serve a very diverse population of students. Teaching 1st grade is such a rewarding job for me because I love to see students make huge achievements in their academics during the school year. My kiddos come in each year eager to learn and work hard!
Many students in our school are economically disadvantaged and may not have access to materials to help at home, and many may not have been introduced to learning opportunities anywhere but school.
I think it's very important that we create a family atmosphere in our classroom, so the students feel comfortable and cared for so they can focus on learning at school.
My Project
I will use these resources to instill a love of reading in my students. It is very important to have authentic, well-written literature in my classroom as most of my students do not get exposed to this at home.
I want all students to fall in love with reading!
By having books such as The Girl Who Thought in Pictures, Jabari Jumps, and The Scarecrow's Hat, they will be exposed to a variety of subject matters as well as writing styles.
I want students to leave my classroom having read as many books as we can. There is no such thing as too many books and I would love to build my classroom library even more!
