My students need books to read that are engaging in order to increase their literacy skills. The Lightning Thief also has themes that can be connected to real world issues.

My Students
The 6th-grade students in my district are fun, vibrant, and active kids. They come from diverse backgrounds that makes teaching them so much fun. 6th grade is such a hard year for middle school students as they are making the transition from elementary school. They are learning where they fit in academically and socially among their new peers in a new building.
These students need people to believe in them and show them that they are worthy.
They have so many challenges to overcome and an education should not be one of them. They need access to materials to help them succeed. These diverse and energetic students are going to make teaching so much fun!
My Project
We are requesting a class set of Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more. Students are more likely to read and retain book that they enjoy. These books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
Please help my students obtain books they will become invested in and enjoy!
This novel is extremely popular among my students and includes themes they can apply to their lives. It also provides a wonderful opportunity to teach Greek mythology in a way that feels relevant and exciting. Thank you all for you help achieving this goal!
