Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My incredible students come from a suburban/rural area in Arizona. Our Title 1 high school is a mix of students from all backgrounds. In my class, students spend the year learning Spanish through reading, writing, telling stories, singing, dancing, and playing games.

My Spanish 1 and 2 classes are comprised of mostly 10th-12th grade students, although I do have an occasional freshman.

They take pride in their education and are thrilled at the opportunity to learn a new language. My sections are full, so students who are given the opportunity to take Spanish work very hard. I have awesome students!

My Project

Some of my students come to class ready to devour any book I place in front of them. Some of my students reluctantly pick a book. Some students don't want to read at all and I have to sit and read with them. And some students spend our entire reading time just choosing a book.

The most important goal I have is to help my students develop of life-long love of reading.

By offering these titles of novice level Spanish to my students I hope to inspire all students to love reading. As a bonus, reading is one of the best ways to develop vocabulary and grammatical skills in a second language. I'm going to trick my students into learning while enjoying fun stories.
