Let's Read en Español! Reading Adventures for My Spanish Students

Help me give my students books in Spanish so that all of my students have the same opportunity to read a variety of books.

My Students

My students walk into our school library with excitement in their eyes. They can't wait to be able to let their imagination go wild in the library makerspace. You can see students taking apart and putting together computers, designing 3-D models, constructing structures, learning about circuitry, or playing board games. You will also see students curled up in the corner reading a book or asking me for a new book for them to read. It always puts a smile on my face when they come back to me, after reading a book, to tell me how much they loved a book.

The library has become a safe place, where students have an opportunity to experience things that they can't access otherwise because of their socioeconomic background, and one of the best parts about my school is that we have such a diverse background of students.

School for my students will look very different when we go back in the fall, but I know they will soak up every opportunity they have to learn, and this project will help us to be able to continue with our learning despite the changes coming our way.

My Project

My school has students from a variety of backgrounds, and one of our growing populations is our Hispanic community. As a school librarian, I serve all of the students in our school, and I have to make sure that each of my students have the same opportunities.

It is important that my Hispanic students have the same access to a variety of books to read as their peers.

Even for my Hispanic students that read English fluently, I encourage them to continue to read books in Spanish every once in a while to keep that skill. This project will provide my students with several new books in Spanish, in a variety of genres, and give them plenty of new opportunities to have a great adventure with a book that they love. These books will be available for all of my students whether they are in school for in-person instruction or doing virtual learning.

¡Vamos! Help my students go on a reading adventure with a good book! They might take on the journey of being a kid lawyer like Theodore Boone, save the world from a virtual threat in Wildcard, experience what it is like to be a refugee in Refugee, or have a few laughs like Roderick in Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
